I am currently in a yoga teacher training program and I thought I would share this with you. :)
Ahimsa is not causing pain in all aspects of life:
physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually and verbally. This means not
physically harming anyone, not hurting
someone’s feelings, not insulting anyone’s intellect, not putting anyone down
for who they are and to never use harsh words towards another individual. We
not only want to implement this kindness towards others but also to ourselves
and to animals and mother earth. If we all
incorporated compassion, mindfulness, kindness, and friendliness, this world
would be a much better place.
Yoga is an
act of non-violence, mindfulness and compassion towards our bodies and teaches
us to treat others the way we would want to be treated. Instead of resorting to
medication or surgery to lose weight or heal our bodies, we do yoga which is
soft, gentle and loving yet still challenges the mind body and spirit in a
healthy way that will build strength and endurance. Yoga does not only benefit
the body but it opens the heart and heals wounds that the spirit/soul might be
holding onto from past times. Doing yoga helps us get away from all the negativity and stress that exists in the outside world and
to reconnect with our true divine selves. Yoga does not only heal the body but
it also heals the heart and the spirit. When the heart and spirit is open and
whole, the channels of wisdom and knowledge can flow with more ease.
This world
would be a much more peaceful place if more people were kind, compassionate,
and mindful to others. Wouldn't it be a beautiful thing if everyone’s intention was to be kind and to not harm anyone? There
are so many ways humans hurt one another: emotionally, mentally, physically, spiritually
and verbally. Let us all be kind to one another and implement the philosophy
and way of life called Ahimsa.
